Website Basics

I’m going back to basics, sharing the advice and tips I give people most frequently.

❓Do you need a website?

Yes.

A lot of businesses seem to do fine with just social media, but you don’t control the algorithm. Your website is the one place on the web where you have complete control of the design, content, and structure.

❓Do you need a professionally designed and maintained website?

No.

There are a ton of DIY builders that are great! I come in when a client wants something more custom, increased functionality, or (most often) they don’t have the time or ability to build it themselves.

❓What are the biggest mistakes you see on people’s websites?

There are two big ones:

1. The website is not properly optimized for search engines. If people can’t find you, that’s a big deal!

2. The website feels too generic- lacking custom content and images. Your website should look and feel like an extension of your brand- because it is!

❓When is it time to redo your website?

The average lifespan of a website is 2-5 years depending on how your business and industry have changed. When you no longer feel proud of your website, it’s time to update! Don’t forget, your website is often the first impression someone has of your brand, are you making it a good one?
